Now for the iPad version of this new version FormIt. This version is packed with new features and some major changes! For instance, new axis snaps for X, Y, and Z! This removes the need to pre-define a work-plane when sketching and allows for much more freedom in creating shapes.

We are happy to announce a new version of FormIt Web beta (http://beta.autodeskformit.com) and FormIt for iOS. The entire team has been firing on all cylinders this summer to prepare for the biggest update we have ever had. This new version represents a major re-thinking of how you create and modify objects in FormIt. The list of new features is after the break.

The best part of my job is speaking to our users. Even when someone is frustrated, it means I have an opportunity to listen and hopefully make it better by guiding our development process. Even after almost a decade dedicated to designing tools for architects, I am still constantly impressed

The latest version of FormIt on iOS has an awesome new feature to smooth out 3D printing workflows. After you've created your model, you can export to an OBJ file. The OBJ opens directly with MakerWare for printing on a MakerBot! I built this FormIt model as a simplified homage to Tadao Ando and his amazing Church of Light in Japan. I also wanted to celebrate a friend's good news by making a scale souvenir for him. His dog is named Ando, so you know he's a big fan.

After a ton of work by our wonderful development team spread out all over the globe, we have our biggest updates yet!  So here is what we have in the iOS update:

• Complete overhaul of the user interface to fit the new iOS 7 look and feel.
• Swipe to the left of the right screen edge to access object properties and the materials library.
• The Building Program provides key design information used to provide a range of potential annual energy cost based on climate zone, building type, and target building area. See the Building Performance Analysis Group's blog for more detail on this exciting new feature!
• Draw more curvilinear forms with the spline tool.
• Rotate the grid by tapping and holding on the grid.
• Swipe on a thumbnail in the gallery to delete, duplicate or access sketch properties.
• Share images of your work on Facebook and Twitter.
• Print images of your work directly to AirPrint enabled printers.
• Share FormIt sketches with others using AirDrop enabled iPads.
